DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC Gets a 50% Cut Just Three Weeks After Launch

Revelations originally cost $20 but is $9.99/£8.99 through August 13 during Sony's PS Store summer sale.

DOOM: The Dark Ages players who bought the Revelations expansion at launch may not be thrilled by its latest price cut. The DLC arrived on July 7, and it is now available for half price on PS5 just three weeks later.

The discount is part of Sony’s expanded PS Store summer sale. Revelations originally cost $20, but it is now available for $9.99/£8.99 until August 13, giving players a cheaper way to access the first major expansion for id Software’s latest shooter.

The expansion’s early discount is notable because Revelations has received strong reviews. OpenCritic lists it with an 88 Top Critic average, 96% of critics recommending it, and a player rating of 100. Those figures do not establish why Bethesda discounted the DLC, but they suggest the sale should not automatically be read as evidence that the expansion has underperformed.

The base game is discounted at the same time. DOOM: The Dark Ages is down 67% to $23.09/£23.09, while the Premium Edition is priced at $32.99/£32.99. That edition includes Revelations, a digital art book, and a bonus skin pack, making it the better deal for anyone who has not purchased the game yet.

The timing of the sale also comes as questions continue around the game’s performance and id Software’s future. The studio lost more than 100 employees during Xbox layoffs earlier in July, while conflicting accounts have circulated about how much of the team remains focused on game development. id Software leadership has pushed back on claims about the studio’s condition.

For PS5 players who were waiting for a lower entry price, the current promotion offers two clear paths. Existing owners can pick up Revelations for $9.99, while new players can buy the Premium Edition and receive the base game, expansion, art book, and skin pack together.

The sale runs through August 13, so tell us what you think about the early discount in the comments. You can also follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.

The game introduces a Shield Saw for blocking and parrying, new melee weapons, and drivable vehicles including a cybernetic dragon and a massive mech. The narrative focuses on the Slayer's origin story with expanded cutscenes and character development.
