Doom Eternal Will Avoid The “Eons Old” Deathmatch Multiplayer

Sometimes video games are not more enthusiastic based on complexity. Simplicity could also provide a substantial amount of fun. Being an old school as it is, Doom Eternal, for that reason, will avoid Deathmatch Multiplayer. Being an old school title inevitably invokes a lot of hype to all the fans, but it doesn’t have a meaning to prevent the multiplayer deathmatch possibility as a game mode.

This has been confirmed in a recent interview with Shacknews, in which Bethesda’s Pete Hines has defended the appearance of the traditional deathmatch mode in Doom Eternal. Entitled as “eons-old,” Pete Hines has further acknowledged the deathmatch mode wouldn’t meet the right goal.

That mode is eons old. We don’t want to do something just for the sake of doing it, or because something has always been a certain way.

The biggest problem we thought we had with DOOM 2016 was that [multiplayer] wasn’t done at id, and felt really disconnected from the base game that everybody loved. Whether you’re playing by yourself or with others, we want it to feel like you’re all playing the same game. That’s as opposed to, ‘I’m a badass demon slayer in single-player, but when I go over to multiplayer, there are no demons, and it’s just Deathmatch.’ I don’t know what that has to do with [DOOM] other than that, well, a couple of decades ago we had that, so we should just have that again.

We are not sure if this has anything to do with the game’s audience, but generally speaking, Pete Hines might have some solid indications of what’s currently popular among the game modes out there. Does this mean that we may get a new game mode that may grow into a completely new genre?

Being done by id Software will surely bring a new sort of spike on the excitement scale. The networking, being the main issue, is no stranger to the developers at id Software, and most of the netcode done does not grow into a painful problem for the player base.

Time will surely tell as we’re heading extremely close to Doom Eternal’s release day. Doom Eternal will release this Friday, and acknowledging Bethesda’s recent video game publishes, and we hope this one will work as intended.
