Disney’s latest Mandalorian and Grogu trailer still keeps the movie’s real story under wraps
The new CinemaCon trailer added fresh character and action shots, while Disney also showed the film's first 15 minutes and confirmed IMAX footage.
Disney and Lucasfilm have released a new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, and even this final look leaves the film’s core story mostly hidden.
Fresh out of CinemaCon, the trailer puts Din Djarin and Grogu in the service of Sigourney Weaver’s Colonel Ward. Mando says, “I only take out Imperial War Criminals… I’ll take out every bad guy in your deck of cards,” while Ward answers, “This isn’t about revenge, it’s about preventing another war.” Beyond that exchange, the footage keeps the plot close to the chest.
What it does show is a string of quick glimpses. There is a snowy Hoth-like setting, a fast chase with Grogu apparently flying his hover pram, and a closer look at Embo, the Clone Wars bounty hunter making his live-action debut. The trailer also gives Zeb Orrelios another moment in the spotlight, while Weaver appears in a Rebel Flight Suit.
Disney and Lucasfilm also screened the first 15 minutes of the movie for CinemaCon audiences. That presentation revealed that The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first Star Wars film to use opening credits, and Jon Favreau said the film will include around 49 minutes of full-frame IMAX footage.
The new trailer does not answer the bigger question of what the movie is really building toward, but it does make one thing clear: Disney is keeping the details back until the film reaches theaters on May 22.
