Avowed, the game that everyone has been waiting for will be stuck at 30FPS. The interview was concluded on the Lords of Gaming Podcast, where Obsidian Entertainment’s Matt Hansen said that since it’s a first-person single-player game, you don’t need 60FPS mode.
When they asked Hansen about the target fps, he said that’s a tradeoff made by the developers. Since it’s a single-player game, instead of pushing for frames the developer will try to invest in visual fidelity more than anything else. This decision will improve the aesthetics, rather than taking the performance in play.
Despite its lower frame rate, Hansen also said the game has been running smoothly during development. He said the game has consistent performance, and the team is working on the final touches regarding performance optimization.
Seeing Obsidian “core targeting 30 frames per second at the bare minimum” is weird, especially when 60fps has become the norm in the gaming industry. The interview can be found below:

As the game comes closer to its release, it would be interesting to see what the players are going to say about it. Whether the 30 fps would satisfy players remains to be seen.
