Detective Dotson is shaping into a delightful upcoming title, blending elements from classic adventure games and Bollywood flair. Developed by Masala Games, this game invites players into the vibrant world of current-day India, where they step into the shoes of an aspiring actor turned amateur detective.

The game will release on April 24, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC with support for Xbox Play Anywhere. The team behind it boasts experience with major studios like Pixar and Electronic Arts, making their participation at this year’s ID@Xbox Showcase during GDC memorable.

In Detective Dotson, you play the titular character who embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind his father’s mysterious death. Along the way, he encounters quirky cases, including solving social faux pas at tea parties or investigating lunch thefts that threaten film productions. Such lighthearted missions promise a fun narrative filled with humor and charm.

The gameplay features traditional adventure mechanics. Players guide Dotson across a colorful 2D plane adorned with Indian-influenced backdrops. Players interact with various characters, gather clues, manage an inventory of objects, and meticulously note down evidence to piece together the mysteries at hand.

A standout feature includes utilizing an evidence board where players sort clues through sticky notes marked with phrases like “Broke Up With” or “Hides In,” connecting suspects creatively to unravel each case’s mystery. This brings a nostalgic feel for those fond of classic point-and-click games while remaining accessible for all skill levels.

The aesthetic appeal of Detective Dotson cannot be overlooked; its bright visuals and diverse cast contribute significantly to its distinct atmosphere. The game thoughtfully immerses players into Indian culture through dialogue and situational challenges that reflect social dynamics—like why being excluded from a tea party could significantly impact one’s reputation.

This charming story portrays Dotson as a dedicated detective eager to make positive changes in his community. My brief demo left me wanting more, as I realized deeper layers are waiting to be uncovered within this tale about a reluctant hero.

If you’re excited about delightful narratives wrapped in mystery alongside head-scratching puzzles, stay alert for Detective Dotson. It’s certainly climbing my list of expected titles before its launch later this month!
