Another marketing impact, a big one. Destiny 2 will follow the path of Dota 2 and Fortnite by adding Battle Pass to their game. The Battle Pass, as in the above listed Dota 2 and Fortnite will have rewards bound to player’s progression. Presumably, a paid Battle Pass upgrade would be added too.
There will be rewards in two distinct segments, Paid and Free. As you already know, Paid versions will include better items while free. The Battle Pass is estimated to go live during October with the Season of the Undying.
Having different rewards bound to progress will encourage an active playtime, as that is what Bungie is currently seeking for. Also, the marketing aspect of a Battle Pass is merely huge. Every player is eager to dress a new outfit on their character. That’s why cosmetics are probably the most robust monetizing value in video games nowadays.
According to the developers, the Battle Pass owners will have an opportunity to get access to the following:
- Legendary Weapon Drops
- Weekly and Daily bounties and challenges with rewards
- Exotic Bow Weapon Quest, Leviathan’s Breath
- Exotic Hand Cannon, Eriana’s Vow
- Legendary Armor Sets for each class
- Ornament Armor Sets
- Legendary weapon ornaments
- Exotic Weapon Ornament for Eriana’s Vow
- New Finisher
- Exotic emote
- Exotic ship
