Destiny 2: The Final Shape Delayed to June 2024, Bungie Announces Extended Season of the Wish

Bungie has announced a significant shift in its release schedule for the eagerly awaited Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Initially slated for a February release, the game will arrive on June 4, 2024. This news comes directly from the Destiny 2 Dev Team in a recent post on the Bungie Blog.

Bungie’s statement emphasizes the importance of The Final Shape in the grand tapestry of Destiny’s ten-year narrative. Desiring to honor this rich history, the development team has delayed the release, aiming to deliver a more comprehensive and impactful experience. “We’re taking the time we need to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for years to come,” the team stated.

In light of this delay, Bungie has also announced changes to its current content schedule. The Season of the Wish will now extend until the launch of The Final Shape in June. This season will still feature most of its content from late November to February but with additional new content leading up to the June release.

February will introduce new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes and the launch of Moments of Triumph, boasting unique rewards. March will see the Guardian Games with a renewed focus on class competition. April begins a two-month content update titled Destiny 2: Into the Light, setting the stage for the Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. Additionally, three new PvP maps are scheduled for release in May, thanks to the ongoing efforts of the PvP Strike Team.

The Destiny 2 Dev Team acknowledges the disappointment delays can bring but expresses excitement about having additional time to realize their vision for The Final Shape. They promise to share more in April, including new gameplay and insights into the significant content additions currently underway.

As Bungie signs off, thanking the community for its continued support and engagement, it’s clear that while the wait for The Final Shape has become longer, the studio’s commitment to delivering a memorable and enriching gaming experience remains unwavering.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is now set to release on June 4, 2024, for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
