If you’ve been tearing your hair out trying to beat the Roaring Knight in Deltarune Chapter 3, there’s a patch coming that might finally give you a breather. Toby Fox has announced Patch 1.03, which adjusts one of the most maddening parts of the fight, the infamous “Sword Tunnel.”
Like its predecessor Undertale, Deltarune is no stranger to brutally challenging bosses that demand near-perfect timing and precision. Players who have struggled against Sans or Undyne the Undying will find familiar frustration facing Jevil, Spamton Neo, and, of course, the Roaring Knight. The difference? This time, you get some party members to back you up, but that doesn’t always make things easier.
The Roaring Knight’s most notorious attack has been called the “Sword Tunnel” by Toby Fox himself, though fans sometimes call it the “Sword Corridor.” This attack forces players to dodge through a path lined with flying swords, which then create damaging patterns all over the screen. The tricky part? The red lines that show where the swords will strike were misleading, making some areas seem safe when they actually weren’t. This led to many unfair deaths and a lot of broken controllers.
DELTARUNE patch 1.03 was released
Patch 1.03 will shrink the area of effect (AoE) of these sword strikes, making it easier to dodge and giving players a better chance to survive the onslaught. Some veterans are already boasting that they conquered the Roaring Knight before this change, but for the rest of us trying to 100% the game, this update will feel like a long-overdue break.
Honestly, who wouldn’t want a bit less frustration from a fight that’s been described as a nightmare? It’s a rare move for Toby Fox to dial down difficulty, but it makes sense here. The fight still demands skill, but that misleading sword AoE was just brutal.
