Deadlock’s new Doorman plants paired doors on walls so players can teleport across the map

Valve added The Doorman to Deadlock, a hero who places paired doors to teleport players.

Valve added a new Deadlock hero called The Doorman, who can place two doors on flat walls to link them and teleport across the map. That changes movement and positioning in matches and gives players a fresh way to approach flanks and escapes in the limited-access shooter.

The Doorman can create two interconnected doors on basically any flat wall and then use them to teleport: you enter one door and exit the other. The character went live late last night as part of Valve’s plan to gradually introduce six new heroes and links back to the main Deadlock hub for details.

“He’s proper, he’s polite, but the humble Doorman of The Baroness Hotel is more than meets the eye,” a blog post welcoming the character reads. “A brisk ring of his Call Bell leaves nearby enemies disoriented, and his high-speed Luggage Cart knocks them right off their feet.”

“Do you find yourself getting lost easily in the streets of Manhattan? Don’t worry, The Doorman is here to provide a shortcut with his Doorway whenever the need arises. And only the most special of enemies get to experience the trip of a lifetime to The Baroness Hotel.”

I watched a clip of his kit, and he looks dangerous at range and up close, with a little punchy pistol, you can see keys jingling on while he moves. Odd, the keys actually caught my eye. He’s kinda Portal-esque in concept. Remember Portal? You can watch the gameplay clip below to see the Doorway in action.

Valve also says the next hero will debut on Monday, August 25, and players should keep voting over the weekend to decide who’ll come first. Tell me what you think in the comments and whether the Doorman will change how you play.
