Dead by Daylight’s First Anti-Cheat Trial Is Live on Steam

Players must install Denuvo Anti-Cheat on their first launch during the trial, while Steam Deck and Proton support remains in place.

Dead by Daylight’s first Anti-Cheat Trial is live on Steam, putting Denuvo Anti-Cheat in front of PC players as the game’s team tests a new way to detect cheating before it disrupts fair play.

The rollout was confirmed in the team’s Steam announcement. During the trial, the first launch will prompt players to install Denuvo Anti-Cheat, and that installation is required to play.

Only the Steam version is included in this phase, but cross-play will not be impacted. Compatibility with Steam Deck and Proton has already been tested, and both will continue to be supported while the trial runs.

Denuvo Anti-Cheat is separate from Denuvo Anti-Piracy. The trial covers software that looks for cheating behavior during gameplay and attempts to identify unfair advantages before they affect other players. It does not add DRM or tools designed to prevent unauthorized access to game content.

Players should continue using Dead by Daylight’s in-game reporting system when they encounter suspected cheating. The team specifically asked for detailed descriptions, including examples such as wallhacks, speedhacks, or teleporting. Selecting the “Hacking/Exploiting” category covers reports involving both cheaters and hackers.

The broader Anti-Cheat Trials program will compare provider compatibility, performance, player feedback, and collected data over time. Additional anti-cheat providers are planned for testing in the coming months, so Denuvo’s trial is only the first phase of the evaluation.

Once this trial ends, Denuvo Anti-Cheat will be deactivated automatically and will no longer run on players’ systems. A step-by-step cleanup guide is available for anyone who needs to remove remaining files. Feedback can also be shared through a dedicated Discord channel launching alongside the trial.
