The title of this article doesn’t seem too much fitting for the DayZ fans. However, it is most likely to happen, since it has been quite hard judging by the developer’s progress to keep up the work. It also might have been the reason for the yet unfinished standalone version of DayZ.
It was much easier back in the days when the game was just an Arma 2 mod, and it was much more anticipated. More anticipated than what today player even thinks of it as a whole. Regarding the recent 0.63 update announcement, we do not know what to say, since throughout these years the game lost its survival genre, and now after this announcement, things are about to get even weirder.
Harton, DayZ lead producer, has told PCGamesN that DayZ will release on a new engine in a couple of weeks on PC. Judging by recent activities, only God knows what he refers to.
We’re releasing DayZ on a new engine in a couple of weeks on PC, and it’s gonna be coming to Game Preview on Xbox this year. That’s basically our aim. I would almost say it’s a reboot of DayZ on PC.
This doesn’t sound welcoming at all, knowing that DayZ’s almost dead community will have to wait… for just about three more years or so? It definitely feels so. Swapping engines after four years of hard work and dedication does not sound good at all.
Now, Bohemia needs to sort many things out, convert everything they can to get back to their same engine, or it will be a rip-off the old mod, but still titled as a Standalone version of the old game. No matter the fact, things are not suitable for Bohemia at all. Stalling the whole fan base is not appropriate in any case, and it might hit them back like a boomerang.
Furthermore, Harton has said that he doesn’t want DayZ to be an appealing title to every single PC gamer. Instead, he wants to achieve something like real dedication from the fans, thus give them the most exciting gameplay experience. Last but not least, he did not miss to address the Twitch streamers, which careers started based on DayZ. Will they answer Harton’s question supportively by streaming DayZ after the relaunch? We don’t know.
Last but not least, he has marked this year as the year of DayZ. Amen.
