Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.31 adds toggle to remove vignette

CD Projekt Red's 2.31 patch adds a vignette disable option plus driving and stability fixes

Developer CD Projekt Red has added a setting to disable the vignette effect in Cyberpunk 2077 with the recent 2.31 patch, answering years of player complaints. This small option matters because the darkened screen edges could make extended sessions uncomfortable for some players and modders had already provided community fixes.

Vignette is the darkened tint at the edges of the screen that intensifies when the player crouches or uses certain camera modes. A steady stream of online posts and Reddit discussions have complained it can be distracting or make play uncomfortable. Community creators even published a mod to address the effect, with some players relying on that workaround before the official toggle arrived to tackle the issue. On the game’s subreddit one fan linked a reaction to the change when the toggle was added, saying it improved their comfort while playing. The addition removes a longtime friction point for players who avoided longer sessions because of the effect.

The patch does more than the vignette toggle. The official 2.31 patch notes describe updates to the game’s driving systems so your vehicle can travel smoothly on its own, overtake blocking cars, and bypass traffic lights when appropriate. CDPR also adjusted Free Roam mode so traffic behavior is more consistent and the city is traversed with fewer oddities, and photo mode received usability tweaks. Beyond those changes, the update lists a set of bug fixes and “various stability and performance optimizations” aimed at smoothing out common issues. For a closer look at the driving changes, there is a write-up about the new autonomous driving feature and how it behaves in Night City.

Five years after launch, the game keeps receiving steady quality-of-life adjustments, and some of those grew directly out of player feedback and community work. There is still uncertainty about the franchise’s long-term plans, and related commentary touched on potential sequels and cast interest; a recent piece highlights Keanu Reeves talking about the series’ future. For now, the toggle gives a straightforward way to turn off the effect that bothered many players, without requiring mods or external fixes.
