Cyberpunk 2077 – only 30,000 refunds out of 13.7 million sales?

I am sorry to disappoint you, but the latest CDPR earnings call has discovered that only 30,000 copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have been refunded. The removal of the game from the PlayStation Store has apparently inspired purchases on other platforms. So, after all, it’s a victory for CD Projekt Red, even if everyone believed the mess would bring way deeper consequences.

Judging by CDPR’s recent announcement, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 13.7 million copies solely in 2020, from which only 30,000 have been refunded. All of the 30,000 refunded copies have gone through CDPR’s “Help Me Refund” program that was supposed to alleviate consecutive frustrations and minimize the struggle of unsatisfied consumers. Keep in mind that the 13.7 million copies reflect the year 2020, while there’s no concrete data of the game’s sales in 2021.

2020 has also been the biggest financial year for CD Projekt Red. CDPR’s executive has also stated the following:

“In general I would say that the sentiment about Cyberpunk and the situation with the Sony digital storefront — the fact that we were cut off from large portions of the market which may have also indirectly affected gamers’ decision to purchase the game on other platforms — definitely influenced the sales.”

An indirect influence of sales to pop on other platforms. Another win for CD Projekt Red, obviously. It seems that the fans really believe the renowned company on old fame, ex. The Witcher 3, which is a far bigger value in content when compared to Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt Red is still working on Cyberpunk 2077, as they own that to the fans. Multiple patches have landed, with Patch 1.2 followed by a 1.21 Hotfix, as the latest powerful step against abnormalities. The game’s still ascending in terms of stability and will eventually become a solid video game title which will most likely sound its return to the PlayStation store.
