Cyberpunk 2077 might return to the PlayStation Store soon

Sony pulled CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store in December 2020. Its bad gameplay performance filled with bugs, issues, and vast negative feedback gave Sony no other option but to remove the product from its storefront. This brought CD Projekt Red to a cliff, with no other option but to fix their game if they want to see Cyberpunk 2077 striving on the PlayStation Store once again.

Driven by that, CD Projekt Red had no other option but to release updates that will solely focus on improving Cyberpunk 2077’s performance and alleviate any bad words from its clientele. We can all agree that Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was catastrophic both for the company and fans due to its release state.

This had resulted in additional lawsuits, refunds, and whatnot, which has destroyed CD Projekt Red even more. With more than 3 months off the PlayStation store, CD Projekt Red has been working hard on re-establishing a vital product with multiple patch releases. The latest 1.2 update (probably the chunkiest in fixes) has raised awareness of Cyberpunk 2077’s potential comeback, but in the end, it all comes down to Sony’s final decision.

Hence, Cyberpunk 2077 might become part of the PlayStation Store repository once again. At a recent investor Q&A, CD Project Red’s SVP of business development, Michał Nowakowski, said that even if the game is on the right path, the final decision belongs to Sony:

“However, the final decision you have to understand belongs to Sony. We do believe we’re closer than further, but of course, the final call is theirs, so let’s wait and see. As far as Cyberpunk sales for this year are concerned, first of all, I believe they will be driven by two major elements that we keep working on. First, patching and updating the game, and should also result in coming back to the Sony store. Obviously, Sony’s decision is much awaited by many gamers and we believe it may also influence purchasing decisions of not only those playing on PlayStation but also on other platforms, so this is important to us.
