Core Keeper’s latest Notes From the Underground #005 offers a rare glimpse into a peaceful day at the Explorer’s base, revealing fresh insights about the underground wildlife and some clever pet-related crafting. It’s a quiet moment in a usually perilous world, but one packed with interesting developments for players who enjoy the farming and companion aspects of the game.
Curious Cattle and distinct Variations
The Explorer has been running a ranch, studying the underground cattle species with surprising results. The milk from the purple-haired Moolin has an earthy aftertaste and seems to boost stamina, while the wool from Bambucks is proving handy for crafting armor and backpacks. What really caught my attention was the discovery of unusual cattle color variations: a calf with bright yellow hair born from a purple-haired Moolin, plus sightings of a pure white Drohmble, a purple Strolly Poly, and a pink Bambuck roaming the wild.
Pet Companions and Cozy Beds
Aside from livestock, the Explorer has been spending time with a Subterrier and an Embertail, two pets that add charm and company underground. Managing multiple pets while exploring has been tricky, so the Explorer crafted a cozy bed for one pet to rest in while out adventuring with the other. This little invention hints at future pet care options, with plans for beds tailored to different pet types.
Here’s a snippet from the journal entry:
“Today was one of those rare days where I didn’t get lost, nothing threatened my life, and I got to spend some time with the animals at my base. I’ve been studying the wildlife down here for a while and have even managed to start my very own ranch. The milk produced by Moolin is quite different from the milk back home – it has an earthy aftertaste – and I feel a lot sturdier after drinking it. The wool from my Bambucks has proved very useful for crafting new armour and backpacks.
There are many different types of cattle living in the underground, but I’ve started noticing distinct variations within the species on my ranch. Imagine my surprise when my purple-haired Moolin gave birth to a calf with bright yellow hair. Since then, I’ve been paying closer attention to the cattle I encounter in the wild and can confirm that I’ve seen a pure white Drohmble, a purple Strolly Poly, and a pink Bambuck so far.
Observing the cattle got me thinking about the other creatures in this world. I’ve been enjoying the companionship of a loyal Subterrier and a very playful Embertail and thought it was time I did something nice for them. I’ve always found it impossible to keep track of more than one pet while I’m out exploring, so I got to work on crafting a cozy bed that one of them can rest in while I’m out and about with the other. I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty proud of my creativity here and I’ve got ideas for beds to suit all kinds of pets in the future!”
Core Keeper continues to build on its charm by adding these small but meaningful touches to the underground experience. Whether you’re into farming, crafting, or just hanging out with your pets, these updates add layers to the game’s world, making it feel lived-in and personal.
