Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 just got a fresh update from Sandfall Interactive, and it’s all about making your boss fights less painful and your gameplay smoother. If you’ve been stuck retrying those tough encounters, this patch is kinda a relief.
Performance & Visuals
- DLSS & XeSS Improvements: Both DLSS and XeSS now support Frame Generation and Low Latency Mode, but only on compatible GPUs. This means you get smoother frame rates and less input lag. That’s a nice touch, especially if you’ve been feeling the lag during those intense battles.
Quality of Life Improvements
- Battle Retry Prompt: After you lose a fight, a pop-up will ask if you want to retry immediately. No more fumbling through menus—just jump back in faster.
- Lumina Cost Display: The Pictos menu now shows how much Lumina each ability costs, so planning your moves gets a lot clearer.
- Autoplay Dialogue: You can turn on an optional autoplay for dialogues outside cutscenes. It’s toggleable in settings and during conversations, which might save you some clicking.
- Separate Volume Sliders: You can adjust exploration and combat audio volumes independently now. Finally, you can crank battle sounds without blowing out your ears during quiet moments.
Accessibility
- Icons have been added to Lune’s Stains to help colorblind players distinguish them better. It’s a thoughtful fix that improves readability.
Combat Changes
- Lune’s “Thermal Transfer” skill won’t grant an extra turn unless the Stain consumption requirements are met. No more accidental freebies.
- Characters won’t become immortal when using the Second Chance pictos combined with Healing Boon and Protecting Death. Yikes, that was probably unbalanced.
Miscellaneous Fixes
- Fixed the Rocher holding a crystal disappearing after reentering Stone Wave Cliffs.
- Corrected an issue where players were teleported behind the Monolith upon loading a save.
- Gameplay modifiers no longer apply to new game saves if enabled on other saves.
- Fixed a bug where landing as Esquie without the party spawning caused input loss.
- Fixed the fog on Flying Manor blocking the screen on Steam Deck.
Achievements
- Journals no longer vanish after loading a save created at the exact moment of picking up that journal.
- Fixed “Expeditioner” and “Trailbreaker” achievements not unlocking if characters reach level 33 or 66 after battle.
- Fixed “Connoisseur” and “Follow The Trail” achievements not unlocking after collecting all required items on some save files.
Environmental Polish
- Various bug fixes, tweaks, and visual polish across multiple levels to improve immersion.
This patch came out of nowhere, and honestly, it’s a nice surprise. Fans hoping for DLC might be disappointed because there’s no sign of new content yet. And about a Switch 2 version? Sandfall thinks it’s “interesting,” so maybe someday?
