CD Projekt Red says there’s no place for Microtransactions in Single-Player Games

CD Projekt Red, the developer behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, has quite the experience in single-player games. Recently, the developer ruled out the state of microtransactions in single-player games, confirming that there won’t be any in their upcoming single-player experiences.

It’s funny how Microtransactions in single-player games have become a reality, and one example of them is Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2, which caused an insane backlash and resulted in mostly negative reviews. Now, why would you ruin product’s reputation with such a move? Well, who knows? Luckily, CD Projekt Red is not among these companies that are planning to introduce microtransactions in their single-player titles.

This was revealed in a recent Q&A, where CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said that the CD Projekt Red does not plan on including microtransactions in single-player games. On the other side, he said that microtransactions will be considered for multiplayer games, as that’s where they belong.

We do not see a place for microtransactions in the case of single-player games, but we do not rule out that we will use this solution in the future in the case of multiplayer projects.

It’s good to see CD Projekt Red opting out of such an addition, as it is still developing single-player games. The developer is making a remake of the original The Witcher game, and luckily, players won’t have to deal with such headaches. It’s undeniable that more developers should take note of this and alleviate players from such microtransaction engagements in upcoming games. No matter the incentives given, microtransactions from single-player games should be gone.
