Capcom’s Exoprimal Will Not Support Cross-Platform Parties at Launch, Despite Cross-Play Capability

Capcom’s latest title, Exoprimal, is set to drop later this week on July 14th. The highly anticipated dinosaur-hunting PvEvP co-op game is, along with Street Fighter 6, one of the first from the publisher to support cross-platform play between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. However, in a recent tweet, the game developers clarified that cross-platform parties won’t be supported at launch.

Exoprimal’s unique combination of co-op and PvP elements and its innovative dinosaur-hunting mechanics have excited many gamers, especially with its cross-platform play. Yet, the developer’s clarification about cross-platform parties might not be the news that fans hoped for.

According to the announcement, Exoprimal will support cross-platform matchmaking from day one, but party creation will be exclusive to each platform ecosystem. In practice, this means that players using Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows Store can create parties together, but they won’t be able to do so with players on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, or Steam. Moreover, the situation for Steam users is even more restrictive, as they cannot form parties with players on other platforms or storefronts.

The lack of cross-platform parties may seem minor, but it may prove disappointing for players hoping to group up with friends across different platforms. The lack of this feature appears like an oversight, especially considering the increasing prevalence of cross-platform functionalities in many contemporary titles.

On day 1, Exoprimal will support cross-platform matchmaking, but party creation will be specific to each platform ecosystem, as seen below in no particular order:
Group 1: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows
Group 2: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
Group 3: Steam
