Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 recently revealed its trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, but the reception online has been surprisingly cold. Despite promises of a four-player co-op campaign, zombies, and Dead Ops Arcade returning, the trailer is drawing a lot more criticism than excitement.
Fans on YouTube are expressing their disappointment loudly. The trailer has about 33,000 likes but a staggering 140,000 dislikes. The most popular comment, with over 51,000 upvotes, bluntly says, “This actually made me Pre-Order Battlefield 6.” Ouch. That’s quite a statement considering these two games have been longtime rivals.
One user put it this way: “From a COD player- thank you for making it easy to choose Bf6.” Another compared the situation to the time when Infinite Warfare pushed a futuristic theme and Battlefield 1 went back to World War I, which split the community. Seems like some players are leaning toward Battlefield again.
There’s even a comment that stands out for its quiet resignation: “Looks like I’m spending time with my family.” Sometimes walking away feels like the best option.
Despite the backlash, Treyarch’s associate creative director Miles Leslie seems unbothered. When asked about former Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra calling the series “lazy” and predicting Battlefield would “boot stomp” Call of Duty, Leslie said, “You just don’t worry about it, right?” That’s a calm way to handle criticism, though I wonder if he still feels that way given the current reactions.
Interestingly, Battlefield 6’s beta already broke Call of Duty’s Steam record with 520,000 concurrent players. That kind of momentum might be hard to ignore.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will carry over all cosmetics from Black Ops 6, including the goofy Beavis and Butt-Head skins, which could be a fun touch for fans who stuck around. Yet, that’s not enough to stop the wave of negativity.
