Rumors have surfaced about the next Call of Duty entry from Sledgehammer Games, suggesting it will not follow the path of the current Warzone 2, as some might expect. Instead, the 2027 installment might kick off an entirely new current-themed sub-franchise, shifting away from the jetpack-fueled combat that defined previous titles.
According to a leak by the well-known Call of Duty leaker, TheGhostofHope on X, the upcoming game will be firmly rooted in a “current era” setting. This means no jetpacks, which is a notable departure from recent trends in the series. Instead, movement mechanics are said to be a major focus, possibly introducing new ways for players to traverse the battlefield.

Interestingly, the leak also mentions that the game will skip the usual Zombies mode, which might disappoint fans of the undead horde. Instead, the developers appear to be reviving the “Get High” mechanic and possibly incorporating martial arts elements into combat. Players may be able to execute moves like karate kicks and chops, adding a fresh layer to the gameplay. How that will mesh with the overall pacing remains to be seen, but it promises a different flavor than the usual gunplay.
Of course, this info isn’t official yet, so it’s wise to take it with some skepticism. Leaks have been right before, but they’ve also missed the mark. Still, it’s kinda interesting to imagine Call of Duty shaking up its formula a bit after years of jetpacks and futuristic tech.
