After a long wait and plenty of speculation, Borderlands 4 finally has a release date for the Nintendo Switch 2. Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford took to social media to announce that the game will be available on Nintendo’s upcoming console on October 3, 2025. This is kinda big news for Switch fans who’ve been wondering when they’d get to go into the latest chapter of the Borderlands saga on a portable device.
Pitchford acknowledged the mixed feelings around the game’s launch, admitting that the lack of a release date and preorder options had some worried the game might be far off. But he set the record straight, saying, “It’s not next year, it’s not even the holiday. It’s so much before Christmas. It’s so much before Thanksgiving. It’s October 3rd, you guys!”
That’s a solid timeframe, especially since Borderlands 4 will launch earlier on other platforms, specifically on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. So if you’re the impatient type, you won’t have to wait too long to get your hands on the game, even if you don’t own the Switch 2 right away.
Pitchford also praised the Nintendo Switch 2 as a “freakin’ great platform,” which probably has Switch fans nodding along. It’s interesting to see Gearbox committing to a release on Nintendo’s new hardware so soon after its launch, which might mean they’re confident the Switch 2 can handle the Borderlands experience well.
