Gearbox announced recently that Borderlands 4 will have a standard edition price of $70, clarifying earlier remarks that hinted at an $80 price point. This update matters because it settles concerns about the game’s cost, especially after CEO Randy Pitchford’s comments stirred debate.
Gearbox revealed that in addition to the standard edition, there will be a Super Deluxe Edition priced at $130, which bundles bonus items and DLC. Also, a Collector’s Edition costing $150 is available, though it does not include the game itself.
The developer also shared post-launch content plans, including free and paid DLC. Players can expect two new playable characters, fresh regions, and new story missions, though specific details will be announced later.
Last month, Pitchford sparked controversy on X (formerly Twitter) when he suggested that “real fans” would find a way to pay $80 for the game. He referenced his experience working minimum wage and affording an $80 game in 1991. He later clarified that while pricing is complex due to rising development and manufacturing costs, Gearbox aims to offer value regardless of the final price.
Interestingly, Gearbox moved up Borderlands 4’s release date from September 23 to September 12. The game will launch on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Wow, it’s refreshing to see the price settle after the initial fuss. What do you think about the $70 price tag for the standard edition? Does it feel fair to you, or were you expecting something different? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
