Borderlands 4 from Gearbox and 2K includes a simple respec system that lets players reassign skill and Specialization points. This guide explains when respecs unlock, how much they cost, and where to find the machines players need to reset builds.
Players first get access to a Respec Machine after completing the third primary mission, Down and Outbound. The first machine appears at The Launchpad inside the main building, placed next to a Lost Loot Machine and a Bank. The Launchpad machine is the earliest chance to test different Skill trees without committing to permanent choices. For quick reference, the game tag can be found at Borderlands 4.
Respec Machines will reset Skill points in exchange for cash. The fee scales with the player’s current money, so richer characters will pay a higher sum, but currency is easy to come by during regular play. Once the machine is opened, players can either respec a single Skill tree or clear every Skill point and rebuild from scratch. Backing out cancels the session and requires payment again. It is possible to respec as often as desired, provided the necessary funds are available.
How to respec Specialization points
Specialization branches (Survivor, Brute, Sharpshooter, and Runner) are reset at Respec Machines but cost Eridium rather than cash. Eridium can be farmed by completing Bounty board contracts. After finishing the campaign, players can invest in one Specialization branch and later change that decision by paying Eridium at any Respec Machine.

Respec Machines show on the map as an icon featuring a head inside a triangle. Common locations include major hubs and towns across the map, making it convenient to return and tweak builds between missions.
