Borderlands 4 is gearing up to drop this September, and it’s already stirring up excitement for its fresh gameplay, returning co-op mode, and now a vast quality-of-life upgrade: zero load times. The CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, shared that despite Borderlands 4 boasting the biggest universe in the series, players won’t have to deal with any loading screens.
Fans of the franchise know that Borderlands 3 had its share of loading frustrations, with those stop-and-go moments breaking the flow of the looter shooter action. Hearing that Borderlands 4 will completely cut out loading times is a game-changer for anyone who’s ever felt that grind get interrupted.
No Loading Times and Instant Fast Travel
At the Gearbox show during PAX East 2025, Randy Pitchford spent over an hour answering questions and revealing details about Borderlands 4. Around 40 minutes in, he dropped the bombshell: “there’s no load times” in the game. He emphasized that the world is massive but seamless, with no “dog legs or anything binding people together.”
This means the game’s world is fully connected, allowing players to move freely without interruptions. The fast travel system lets you jump to your friends instantly, keeping the multiplayer experience smooth and uninterrupted.
It’s refreshing to hear that Gearbox has tackled one of the franchise’s most significant pain points head-on. The promise of a seamless, expansive world with instant travel could make Borderlands 4 feel more fluid and alive than ever before.
