Borderlands 4 PC graphics settings guide shows FSR and FPS fixes

Recommended PC graphics settings to stabilize Borderlands 4 performance on midrange RTX 30-series systems.

Borderlands 4, published by 2K Games, arrived on PC with widespread performance problems at launch. This guide explains the graphics settings we used to reduce stutter and stabilize frame rates on a mid-range rig, and it highlights practical options like FSR and frame generation.

Performance at launch has been poor enough that Steam reviews trended negative, and the game’s Unreal Engine 5 build produced heavy stuttering for many players. The guide describes a workflow that traded some visual fidelity for steadier performance and clearer screenshots. It also notes that Borderlands 4 is the latest entry in 2K Games’ looter-shooter franchise, which players may already be familiar with due to the series’ mechanics and pacing.

Best Borderlands 4 PC graphics settings

Basic

    • Display Mode: Windowed Fullscreen
    • Resolution: Your monitor’s native resolution (1920×1080)
    • Display Stats: None
    • Limit Frame Rate: Off
    • Custom FPS Limit: Off
  • Vertical Sync: Off
  • Field of View: 110
  • Vehicle Field of View: 100

Advanced

General

  • Graphics Preset: Medium
  • Auto-Detect Graphics Preset: Run Auto-Detect
  • Anti-Aliasing: Enabled

Resolution Scaling

  • Upscaling Method: FSR
  • Upscaling Quality: Quality
  • Spatial Upscaling Quality: Disabled
  • Scene Capture Quality: High or Full Resolution
  • Frame Generation: On

Environment

  • HLOD Loading Range: Medium
  • Geometry Quality: Medium
  • Texture Quality: Medium
  • Texture Streaming Speed: Medium
  • Anisotropic Filtering Quality: x4
  • Foliage Density: Medium
  • Volumetric Fog: Low
  • Volumetric Cloud: Low
  • Shadow Quality: Low
  • Directional Shadow Quality: Low
  • Volumetric Cloud Shadows: Disabled
  • Lighting Quality: Low
  • Reflections Quality: Low
  • Shading Quality: Low

Post-Processing

  • Post-Process Quality: Medium
  • Motion Blur Amount: 0
  • Motion Blur Quality: Off

We picked FSR for upscaling despite having an RTX card because other upscalers failed to produce stable frames on that rig. Frame Generation was kept on, with a note that it can introduce input lag; for a primarily PvE title the tradeoff was acceptable. Scene Capture Quality set to High or Full Resolution preserves screenshot fidelity while FSR boosts apparent framerate. These settings emphasize steadier playback over maximum visual detail.

Reported results showed FSR doubling the frame counter in some displays while actual framerate typically ranged between 25 and 55 FPS depending on location and activity. Performance was better inside bases and dipped outdoors or during busy mission areas.
