Borderlands 4 Free Play Weekend is live on Steam, giving players access to the base game and free post-launch additions through September 14 at 10:00 a.m. PT. The latest Steam announcement also confirms that the game’s first anniversary sale is underway.
The free weekend began on September 10 at 10:00 a.m. PT and will end on September 14 at 10:00 a.m. PT. Players can take on the base campaign, bandits, monsters, boss encounters, and free additions such as Circle of Slaughter.
What the free weekend includes
Players joining friends who own DLC Vault Hunters can still adventure alongside characters such as Loveless the Hacker. Free players remain limited to missions included with the base game, so DLC story content will require a purchase.
Progress, loot, and achievements will carry over if the game is purchased on the same platform after the weekend ends. Cross-platform saves are also available through a free SHiFT Account, allowing players who own Borderlands 4 on multiple platforms to continue their Vault Hunter’s progress. Gearbox provides setup information through its SHiFT Account guide and Cross-Platform Saves Support page.
Full cross-play support means players can join friends on other supported platforms during the event. That makes the weekend a straightforward way to see whether the game’s Vault Hunters, Action Skills, and looter shooter combat fit your group before deciding whether to buy.
Steam anniversary discounts run through September 24
The broader anniversary promotion runs across multiple platforms. On Steam, the base game, Borderlands 4 Deluxe Edition, and Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition are each 50% off until September 24 at 10:00 a.m. PT.
Steam players can also choose the Mayhem Bundle, which includes Borderlands 1, 2, 3, and 4 along with Story Pack 1. A separate bundle pairs Borderlands 2 with Borderlands 4. Steam’s Complete Your Collection pricing applies when a player already owns one or more games included in either bundle, offering the best available price for the remaining content.
Both the free weekend and the anniversary offers are digital promotions, and pricing or availability may vary by region and platform. The free access ends on September 14, while the Steam anniversary discounts continue until September 24.
