Gearbox says a console patch for Borderlands 4 is on the way, but it will arrive later than the recent PC update because console testing and certification take longer. That matters for players on PS5 and Xbox Series X who are still waiting for fixes the studio already pushed to PC.
Creative director Graeme Timmins responded to a viral speedrun exploit by saying, “I’ve got my eye on this,” and warned that it could be addressed if it causes technical trouble. When asked whether that or other fixes would hit consoles soon, Timmins noted that “console testing and certification is more involved [than] pushing out PC builds.”
On PC, Gearbox already shipped a relatively small patch last week, around 758MB, that attempted to smooth progression and address performance problems. The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions have not received that update yet because Microsoft and Sony require additional checks before approving new builds. Timmins said the extra steps exist so “we’re sending out good quality patches,” and added, “it’s coming and we’re doing everything we can to make it happen quickly.”
Performance issues have dominated discussion around Borderlands 4 since launch, drawing direct attention from Gearbox leadership. Studio head Randy Pitchford even offered advice to some players on social media as the team worked on improvements. That focus helps explain why the PC patch arrived first, with console fixes promised once certification clears.
