Johanna Faries, Blizzard Entertainment’s president, told Bloomberg on December 19, 2025 that the studio is prioritizing its existing worlds and franchises over launching brand new settings. Faries framed the plan as a calendar-driven slate: Blizzard wants “at least one to two really big things” in a given year. She said the company will concentrate on the studios’ known properties and on growing what those franchises can support, rather than chasing new IPs right now.
The comments come as Blizzard rebuilds momentum after leadership turnover and business shifts, including the recent deal to return games to China with NetEase. Faries noted the company has long-running series that still have room to expand, and that the team is configuring its release schedule to keep multiple franchises visible across a year.
That approach helps explain recent moves around live-service updates and standalone releases. It also squares with ongoing discussions inside Blizzard about long-term changes to existing games – for example, plans that touch Diablo 4’s Solo Self-Found option, which the studio has said is being talked about but not scheduled for the next season.
Faries’ phrasing leaned executive-polished at times, but the core message says that Blizzard will put energy behind the IP it already owns and aim for a predictable cadence of major releases each year. That will likely mean more sequels, expansions, and cross-franchise efforts rather than a rush of brand-new universes.
