Blizzard decides to hire a former Mafia 3 designer, Harrison Pink, which is probably going to work on changing the genre of Diablo into an Open World MMO game. The fact that they hired Harrison Pink hints towards that. Harrison Pink was responsible for the Open World combat design while he was working on Mafia 3. This hints towards an upcoming Diablo MMO, as Harrison’s experience for this task is quite big.
A long time ago, we said that Diablo needs this kind of change for a steady income. Something that is going to truly impress the fans and make Diablo not just grindable but enjoyable game too. Every Diablo fan needs a good reason to continue playing the game on a daily basis, as the game becomes boring over time.
Someone might guess that Harrison has joined Blizzard because of an upcoming Diablo 4 game, others guess that it might be a type of game where “Diablo meets WoW”. Well, that’s what everyone would love to see. An Open World MMO game is where the future of Diablo lies. Then, the game will have a steady income, steady community and a big reason for players to stick with the game instead of changing it after some time of playing.
After Starcraft is getting a Remastered version, he might be brought for Diablo 2 Remaster. But, let’s just stop guessing and wait for the final outcome.
Just to make things clear, Mr. Harrison Pink has announced this on his twitter:

Congratulations to Harrison Pink and best of luck working on future Diablo projects. And yes, please, Diablo needs to meet WoW, right now!
