If you’re itching to unleash your inner Monkey King on Xbox, you might need to hold your horses a bit longer. The buzz around Black Myth Wukong hasn’t gone unnoticed, but it seems the console version is caught in a bit of a pickle. Game Science’s CEO and founder has spilled some tea on what’s been holding up the port for the Series S, and it’s not what you might think.
In a recent chat on Weibo, Yocar-Feng Ji shared his thoughts after the studio snagged three awards at the Steam Awards 2024. Celebrating this achievement, he also touched on some serious concerns regarding optimization issues that have prevented Black Myth Wukong from making its way to Xbox.
Feng-Ji made it clear that “10G of shared memory” is a significant challenge for developers working with the Series S. He mentioned that achieving this kind of memory efficiency would require “several years of optimization experience.” Sounds like they’re in quite a bind!
This news isn’t entirely shocking, considering whispers about memory problems started circulating last year. Microsoft once chimed in, saying delays weren’t tied to platform limitations, but now we hear directly from Feng-Ji that those pesky optimization hurdles are responsible for the delay.
The wait continues…
Don’t give up just yet if you’re feeling excluded as you wait for Black Myth Wukong to be released on Xbox! Other platforms continue to generate buzz. Speaking of which, if you’re interested in similar gameplay vibes, there have been rumors of a knockoff on the Nintendo e-Shop that might catch your attention.
While we all hope for an Xbox release in the future, it might be worth checking out! Speaking about cross-platform conversations, Feng-Ji also considered the reasons for his game’s failure to win GOTY at the 2024 Game Awards.
