BioWare says the next Mass Effect game is in development, following an N7 Day blog post from executive producer Mike Gamble that aimed to set the record straight about the series’ future. Gamble wrote that the team is “heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect” and that EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe. He added “We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out,” and said the studio will show the project when it feels ready to do so.
Those comments arrive after months of rumor and worry. Talk about BioWare’s direction ramped up following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and news of EA’s proposed $55 billion sale, which would take the publisher private and add around $20 billion in debt. Several BioWare employees publicly expressed concern about what a sale could mean for the studio, and reporting highlighted staff unease about the studio’s future.
The company has also been adjusting headcount and responsibilities as it shapes its next steps, a process we previously covered in BioWare Adjusts Workforce While Crafting Mass Effect 5. Gamble’s post was clearly meant to calm speculation and remind fans that work is ongoing, even if concrete trailers or release windows are not yet on the table.
Short answer: the project exists and the team says it’s concentrating on building it properly. That leaves the usual questions about scope, platforms, tone, and whether romances and player choice will return in a familiar form. For now, patience seems to be the message.
