Bethesda has given a brief on-the-record status update for The Elder Scrolls 6, saying the bulk of the studio is now focused on the project. Studio head Todd Howard spoke with Game Informer on December 16, 2025 and described the work as “progressing really well.”
Howard said, “The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process.” He added that the team wishes the work moved faster but is focused on getting it right. Studio director Angela Browder offered a reminder that hardware and industry tooling have changed a great deal since Skyrim, and that some of what the team can do today would have been unimaginable during earlier entries in the franchise.
The conversation did not come with a release window or new footage. Bethesda’s comments align with past signals that the studio runs multiple projects in parallel while shifting resources as needed. For those of you who want more context on Bethesda’s timeline, CPG previously covered Todd Howard saying The Elder Scrolls 6 was still a long way off, which discussed the studio’s pace in November 2025 in more detail.
Starfield and talk of other Bethesda projects have kept the studio busy since the last Elder Scrolls announcement in 2018. For now, Bethesda’s public position is that pre-production and overlapping development are normal parts of the pipeline and that the team is concentrating its efforts on the next mainline Elder Scrolls.
