Battlefield 6 has long promised a hefty dose of destruction, something fans have come to expect from the series. Yet, recent details shared by the developers reveal that while destruction remains essential, it won’t reach the level of completely flattening entire maps.
Destruction has always been a hallmark of Battlefield. My first authentic taste came with Battlefield: Bad Company, where blasting a hole through a building felt fresh and interesting. Later, Battlefield 4 pushed things further with its Levelution system, creating some of the most memorable moments in multiplayer gaming. It’s clear that Battlefield 6 draws inspiration from those roots, especially Bad Company 2, but it’s not going to let you turn every battlefield into a complete wasteland.
According to GNN, via a special multiplayer event covered by Battlefield Bulletin, DICE explained their approach: “We’re not preparing for complete destruction of entire areas, like turning a battlefield into a parking lot with nothing left. Instead, we aim to create interesting, environmentally stimulating effects through destruction, primarily creating interesting scene changes.”

Imagine a village full of houses. You probably won’t be able to blow them all to rubble. Some structures might only allow partial damage, like holes through walls or floors. That kind of scripted or limited destruction could still provide tactical options without losing the map’s identity. We’ve already seen plenty of chaos and anarchy in the multiplayer reveals and gameplay leaks, so the game definitely won’t feel tame.
Does the absence of total map destruction disappoint you? Or would you prefer specific maps or modes where destruction is possible? Maybe that’s something Battlefield Portal will cover, letting players build their own experiences with more destruction options.
