Hey folks, here’s a heads-up about Battlefield 6 multiplayer: if there aren’t enough players to start a match, DICE and EA will add AI bots to fill the gaps. It’s a move to keep the game flowing smoothly even when lobbies aren’t packed.
During a multiplayer event in Hong Kong, Taiwanese outlet GNN reported (and Battlefield Bulletin shared) that Battlefield Studios wants as many players as possible to jump in simultaneously. When servers are a bit empty, AI soldiers will “backfill” the spots so matches can start on time. Makes sense, right? No one wants to wait forever for a game to begin.

▪️ DICE wants to choose (based on fan and player requests) the best possible classic builds or maps to bring back the good old days of playing Battlefield.

Jac Carlsson from DICE gave an example: in the new Portal mode, players might create custom games where bots help newcomers get comfy with the gameplay. That’s kinda neat, bots not just filling empty slots but also assisting folks to learn the ropes. But what about bot skill? No details yet on how innovative or challenging these AI opponents will be.
Guess the bots will step aside once enough real players join the match. It’s a bit of a balancing act, but at least it avoids dead lobbies. Oh, and there’s more: seasonal events will bring fresh weapons, maps, and modes to keep things interesting. Frequency of these seasons? Still a mystery.
Battlefield 6 will launch on October 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Two beta weekends will kick off starting August 7 for players with early access codes. The beta opens publicly on August 9-10, then again from August 14-17. So, plenty of chances to jump in and see how those bots behave.
What do you think about bots filling online lobbies? Helpful or kinda annoying?
