Battlefield 6 Will Bring Back a Campaign, But It Might Be Short

Battlefield 6 confirms a single-player Campaign after Battlefield 2042, though length and polish remain uncertain.

Battlefield 6 will include a Campaign, a feature missing from Battlefield 2042 that left many fans wondering if it would return. Knowing whether the next installment offers a single-player experience matters because previous titles in the series have been praised for their storytelling.

Most Battlefield games, like the Bad Company entries as well as Battlefield 1 and 3, have featured campaigns that players really enjoyed. DICE skipped this for 2042 to focus on multiplayer, so fans worried the same might happen again.

Does Battlefield 6 Have a Campaign?

Yes, Battlefield 6 will have a traditional Campaign. Battlefield Studios comprises Criterion Games, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studio, each handling distinct aspects of the game. DICE is focusing on multiplayer gameplay like destruction and vehicles. Motive Studio is working on multiplayer maps and single-player missions. Ripple Effect will develop a battle royale mode, while Criterion is mainly responsible for the Campaign.

Criterion’s senior producer Danny Isaac shared, “Mainly, we’ve been focused on the Single-player experience. The Campaign is back for Battlefield.” Criterion is known for the Burnout series and later Need for Speed games, as well as their contributions to previous Battlefield titles. Motive Studio also has a solid track record with games like the Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons.

What to Expect From The Battlefield 6 Campaign

The reveal trailer shows Campaign footage centered around Pax Armata, a private military company that’s wreaking havoc. The story appears to follow U.S. and allied forces as they fight to stop this group’s destructive plans.

Ars Technica mentioned the Campaign might last about six hours, which is on the shorter side but typical for the series. Leaker Temporyal says there will be a prologue, plus eight missions set in locations such as Egypt, Tajikistan, the USA, and Gibraltar.

One developer told Ars Technica that single-player is “massively late” in development. They might have to cut parts or work through the summer to get the Campaign ready for release. That sounds a little worrying, doesn’t it? Would you want a rushed story experience?

Leaked information hints at missions such as retaking Gibraltar’s “Rock” from Pax Armata, establishing a beachhead, destroying mines, and accessing historic tunnels. The player’s squad, Dagger 1-3, supports NATO and British forces, including a unit called Lancer.
