Battlefield 6 Tidal Strike Will Rework Tsuru Reef and Add REDSEC Proximity Chat
The upcoming update will also adjust vehicles and reticles, while a separate two-week anniversary event is planned for the end of September.

Battlefield 6’s upcoming Tidal Strike update will give attackers more ways through Tsuru Reef’s Breakthrough sectors and bring Proximity Chat to REDSEC Battle Royale. Battlefield Studios outlined those plans in a Steam community update, which also detailed vehicle changes, AFK and leave penalties, Battlefield Labs testing, and new Portal tools.
Tsuru Reef Breakthrough is getting an attacker-focused pass
Breakthrough on Tsuru Reef has been favoring defenders more heavily than intended, so the Tidal Strike update will make several changes to the map’s sector flow. Capture zones will be redrawn, some objectives will move, and the playable space in certain sectors will expand.
Those changes should give attacking squads more room to establish a foothold instead of repeatedly running into the same defensive wall. Additional flanking routes will also open up, including more opportunities to use boats around defensive positions. Spawn locations and vehicle availability for both teams will receive their own adjustments.
Battlefield Studios has not shared the full numbers or final objective layouts yet. Detailed changes will arrive with the upcoming Update Notes.
Carrier Strike spawn camping is still under review
Carrier Strike has also drawn complaints about teams coming under heavy pressure soon after spawning. The team is investigating those situations and will decide where changes are needed, but no specific fix has been announced yet.
Carrier Strike and Fighter Sweep will remain available throughout Season 4 after being extended beyond their original run.
Reticles and vehicles are both getting combat changes
A broad reticle pass will arrive with Tidal Strike. Sights will receive cleaner designs, sharper visuals, and improved readability against different backgrounds. Applicable optics will also receive a more visible glow through changes to the reticle shader.
Many reticles are being resized as well, including smaller red dots and other elements that could look too thick or oversized. The same work applies to launcher and gadget sights, giving aiming tools across the Battlefield sandbox a more consistent look.
The Interdictor is also being reviewed after its introduction with the Top Gun update. The design team is still working through possible improvements and will share the exact changes once they are finalized.
Vehicle handling and survivability are receiving a separate round of changes. The RCB-90 Patrol Boat will have less oversteer, while miniguns will deal less damage to Patrol Boats and ATPs. Little Bird miniguns will overheat faster, limiting how long they can maintain aerial fire before needing a pause.

Pilots will also lose the directional lock-on indicator for the Lock-Guided AA Missile and IGLA. That change affects the information shown to pilots rather than removing either anti-air weapon from the game.
The team is continuing to track the Little Bird’s place in the vehicle balance. The top 5% of pilots are averaging around three more kills per match than they did six months ago, but current data shows IFVs and MBTs account for more player kills than Scout Helicopters on every map. Tsuru Reef also gives Patrol Boats a prominent role among the Little Bird’s threats.
Further jet changes are planned for the next season, with more details to come after the adjustments are finalized.
REDSEC adds proximity communication and penalties for leaving
Proximity Chat will add local voice communication to REDSEC Battle Royale. Voices will be positioned based on a player’s location, with walls, indoor spaces, and vehicles affecting how those conversations sound. Players will be able to identify who is speaking and mute or report them when needed.
Solo players and parties will default to Game voice chat, and the Commo Rose will offer a quick way to switch channels or turn Proximity Chat off globally. Opening the Battle Royale scoreboard will show recent nearby speakers, with mute, report, and block options available through the EA Connect popup. No more than four players can be heard at once. A message will appear when that limit is reached, and additional speakers will be squelched until a spot opens.
Proximity Chat will be tested as players use it in real matches, so the feature may be switched off temporarily while the team works on audio range, clarity, moderation tools, and its effect on gameplay.
AFK Kick will also arrive to identify inactive players and warn them before removing them from a match. Activity will reset the inactivity check, and the system accounts for situations such as spectating or waiting to redeploy. Players can report inactive teammates through EA Connect as well.
Designated playlists will receive Leave Penalties. Players who try to leave early will see a warning before the penalty is applied, while repeated departures can lead to escalating matchmaking restrictions for that playlist.
Battlefield 6 anniversary event is planned for late September
Battlefield 6 will mark the end of its first year with a two-week anniversary event planned for toward the end of September. Challenges and rewards will run alongside the regular playlist rotation, allowing players to work on anniversary objectives during normal matches.
More information about those challenges and rewards will be shared closer to the event. REDSEC players will also have the Phantom Program to tackle when its Solos, Duos, and Quads playlists are active. The activity sends players after intel and an access code tied to Fort Lyndon’s security system.
Battlefield Labs will test new maps and vehicle balance
The next Battlefield Labs session will test new layouts for New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields in Conquest. The layouts are designed around greater separation between headquarters, more vertical space for flanking, additional terrain breaks, and new ways to reach rooftops and approach objectives.
Vehicle testing will cover how aircraft, ground vehicles, anti-air weapons, and anti-vehicle tools interact in different combat situations. The results will help guide further balance work for air and ground combat.
Portal expands its verified modes and water systems
Portal creators will gain King of the Hill and Domination as Verified Modes with the update. A new Ocean Sandbox Map will also offer an open-water foundation for custom experiences, while expanded water and cloud systems will give creators more control over how those battlefields work.
