Battlefield 6 has officially been revealed with a leaked October release date, arriving at a moment when Call of Duty fans are seriously unimpressed by the increasingly bizarre crossover skins flooding their game. While crossover skins aren’t new, the wild stuff Call of Duty has been pushing lately has many players begging for a more grounded approach.
We all know that Fortnite has kind of set the bar for crazy pop culture crossovers in shooters, bringing in hundreds of characters from various movies and shows. Call of Duty followed, but it’s taken things to a whole new level, with skins featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, cel-shaded Beavis and Butt-Head, and even American Dad characters. Fans are feeling like it’s gone way too far.
When Battlefield 6 dropped its cinematic reveal trailer on July 24, it showcased a current military shooter with realistic uniforms, weapons, and vehicles, the kind of grounded experience many have been craving. But the question on everyone’s mind is whether DICE will keep it that way or let the game get cluttered with flashy, out-of-place skins like CoD.
Battlefield 6 players are worried that crossover skins would ruin the game
Reddit users in the Battlefield community have been vocal about their concerns. One said, “You have a perfect opportunity to create these cosmetics that fit into the game’s visual appearance. We are tired of glowing alien skins and weird crossovers that look like eyesores.” Another chimed in, “The last thing I want to see is neon guns and ridiculous flashy outfits with soldiers spewing cringeworthy one-liners.”
On X, the vibe is pretty much the same. HiddenXperia tweeted, “I pray that they stick the landing this time AND don’t destroy the game with stupid cosmetics ala CoD. BF6 has a real chance to dominate.”
Fans are basically asking for a classic Battlefield feeling, not the kind of chaos seen in Black Ops 6, where the grounded military aesthetic gave way to some pretty wild crossover skins later on. It’s a fair ask, right? Who actually wants to see soldiers decked out like cartoon aliens or neon zombies in a game that’s supposed to feel real?
Of course, crossover skins sell well, as Activision wouldn’t bother otherwise. However, reportedly, Call of Duty is dialing back on those wild crossovers after hearing the backlash, admitting they’re “printing money” but also recognizing that the game is starting to look a bit silly.
We’ll have to wait and see what EA and DICE plan for Battlefield 6’s post-launch support. Will they keep the game grounded or chase those flashy cosmetics? It’s a big deal for fans who want a serious military shooter experience without the distractions of goofy skins.

What do you think? Should Battlefield 6 keep things realistic, or is there room for some wild skins?
