Battlefield 6 is preparing to keep its cosmetics firmly rooted in military reality, steering clear of the wild crossover skins that have become common in other live service games. This is a relief to fans who want a serious shooter experience without distractions like pop stars or cartoon characters running around the battlefield.
In-game cosmetics and live service games often go hand in hand. It works for games like Fortnite, where you can find Hatsune Miku duking it out with Sabrina Carpenter or Peter Griffin teaming up with Ariana Grande. But in the case of Battlefield 6, many fans have been vocal about wanting the game to stick to its military roots.
Battlefield 6 Skins To Be More Grounded
During the multiplayer reveal event in London, design director Shashank Uchil spoke with DBLTAP and made it clear: “It has to be grounded. That is what BF3 and BF4 was, it was all soldiers, on the ground. It’s going to be like this.” He added emphatically, “I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded.” Wow, that’s a direct way to put it.
From what we’ve seen so far, Battlefield 6 is off to a good start. It’s avoiding the mistakes of Battlefield 2042 and trying to deliver an experience reminiscent of the classic BF3 and BF4 days. But why does it matter? Because many players were frustrated with the previous game’s wild cosmetic choices and chaotic direction.
Vince Zampella, head of Respawn Entertainment and Ripple Effect Studios, shared a similar viewpoint. As reported by thisweekinvideogames, he said, “Being the spiritual successor to [Battlefield] 3 and 4 is how we look at it, what would that next spiritual successor kind of look like? That’s where we started.” So, the focus is on bringing back that grounded, authentic feeling.
Community reactions to the multiplayer trailer echoed this sentiment. One comment bluntly stated, “Please no non-military skins and nonsense. Keep it like this and it will be what many have wanted for years.” Others appreciated gameplay mechanics like ripping off dog tags or dragging a teammate to revive them, which add to the gritty battlefield vibe.
On Reddit, players have voiced their opinions, too. In a post by u/IncredibleSexyApex, some users oppose outlandish skins entirely, while others suggest an option to disable such cosmetics client-side, replacing them with default military skins. Seems like the community wants the choice, but the default to stay serious.
Please Do Not Add Outrageous Cosmetics for BF6

Aside from cosmetics, we already know a bit about the game’s maps and classes from the maps and classes breakdown, and the hardware requirements have been revealed, too. The game will release on October 10, 2025, so there’s still time to see how this approach plays out.
So, will this grounded approach keep Battlefield 6 from feeling stale or too safe? Or will players miss the flashier, crazier skins that have become popular elsewhere? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
