Battlefield 6 bug kills players after jumping – dev says ‘We don’t break knees on purpose’

Battlefield 6 rounds are supposed to end in explosions, not in mysterious midair assassinations. Lately, some players have been reporting a baffling death bug where a character will get up from a revive, take a small jump, then drop dead a few seconds later with no incoming fire in sight.

The clip that set this off shows a player leaping down a stairwell, dusting themselves off, and then keeling over in an empty hallway. That clip prompted a reply from Florian Le Bihan, principal game designer on Battlefield, who wrote on X/Twitter that the issue “seems to happen if you’re initially killed while falling from a great height, then revived and jump again afterwards,” and added “we’ve found the issue, fixing.” He also quipped, “Nah we don’t break knees on purpose.

The bug has been showing up often enough for multiple players to report numerous instances of the behavior, though some clips are the first time someone has seen it. It looks mechanical rather than intentional, a lingering state after a fall or revive that triggers a delayed death when a subsequent jump is made.

Until the hotfix lands, players should be cautious around heights and revives. If learning the maps or movement is on the to-do list, note that we previously covered Battlefield 6’s new casual Breakthrough mode as a less intense place to practice the fundamentals and map flow.

Short, ugly bugs like this are the sort developers hate to see – especially when they look like punishment for doing the simplest thing in the game, like jumping. At least the lead designer has confirmed the team found the cause and is fixing it, so this should be one of the quicker repairs on the patch docket.
