Base PS5 Players Will Get Ray Tracing at 60 FPS by Default in Marvel’s Wolverine

Insomniac says this is the first time one of its games has made that 60 FPS ray-traced setup the standard on the base console.

Base PS5 players will have ray tracing and a 60 frames-per-second presentation enabled by default in Marvel’s Wolverine, according to IGN’s report and the Reddit post. Insomniac Games confirmed the setting for the standard PlayStation 5 hardware, and the game is scheduled to launch on September 15, 2026.

Insomniac said the combination is a first for the studio. On the base PS5, the default presentation will pair the game’s 60 FPS performance with ray-traced visuals instead of prioritizing one feature over the other. Senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed said the team wanted to build around 60 FPS from early in development, adding that “the game feels super smooth.”

Insomniac head of technology Mike Fitzgerald said ray tracing was part of the visual presentation the studio wanted to deliver on PS5. Unlike the studio’s previous games, where a ray-traced performance option was added late in development, Marvel’s Wolverine will use it as the default mode from launch.

The confirmation applies specifically to the base PS5 and its default Performance Mode. Insomniac has not specified other hardware or display settings, leaving the studio’s first 60 FPS ray-traced default as the main takeaway for standard-console owners.
