Good Games Group has launched a new publishing label called Balor Games that will focus on what the company describes as “Triple I” titles, meaning high-quality independent games. The label follows Good Games Group’s acquisitions of the Humble Games and Firestoke catalogs and places former Humble Games leaders Alan Patmore and Mark Nash in charge of the operation.
Balor’s leadership says the label will act as a curator for select independent projects while offering publishing resources a developer might need without taking away creative independence. Alan Patmore, CEO of Balor Games, said in a statement to GamesPress, “For the developers we have worked with over the years, this moment is a reunion. The same leadership, and the same commitment to thoughtful publishing remain in place. What changes is our scale and our focus. Balor Games is built for inventors and backed by believers. To that end, it exists to be a seal of quality for independent games.”
The label says it is investing in the next generation of independent creators and is actively signing new projects. One named title joining Balor’s slate is the co-op horror tactical shooter SCP: 5K. The company also disclosed that the new label has backing from MEP Capital and that it plans to expand publishing activity while staying selective and pursuing partnerships that match creative aims.
Games and franchises now listed in Balor’s catalog after the acquisitions include Slay the Spire, A Hat in Time, SIGNALIS, and Coral Island, among others. The launch trailer for the label also shows upcoming or unrevealed projects such as Wildblue Skies, Threads of Time, and the previously mentioned SCP: 5K. Wildblue Skies is presented as a spiritual successor to the Star Fox lineage, a concept some players have argued Nintendo has neglected.
