Baldur’s Gate 3 now includes a native Steam Deck build delivered in Hotfix 34, aimed at improving load times, frame rate stability, and general performance on Valve’s handheld.
The change matters because the game previously ran on the Deck through Proton, and Act 2 in particular has been a rough patch for performance. Larian’s native build should make play sessions smoother for Deck owners.
Hotfix 34, linked on SteamDB, introduces a native Steam Deck version, replacing the Proton layer that most players have used. Larian lists improvements including lower loading times, smoother gameplay, and a more stable frame rate.
The new native mode does not become the default if the game was previously running under Proton. Larian published a step-by-step guide that explains how to download the native build, enable it, and where to find save files if migration is needed.
According to Larian CEO Swen Vincke, the native Deck version started as an engineer’s after-hours project. The studio tried it internally and then decided to ship it as an official update. Baldur’s Gate 3 remains one of the most popular games on Steam, and this update will likely enhance the experience for players seeking a better handheld experience.
This native Steam Deck build directly affects Deck players, offering faster loads and more stable performance where Proton may struggle, especially in Act 2. Drop a comment with your experience and follow us on X and Bluesky to keep up with more updates. 🙂
