Avowed is known for its classic RPG elements, including a fair share of spiders that might unsettle some players. The latest update offers a welcome option to replace those spiders with floating orbs, making the game more accessible to those who prefer to avoid creepy crawlies.
Update 1.4 marks the first of several planned patches throughout the year. Obsidian Entertainment shared a detailed roadmap featuring improvements like cooking and crafting tweaks, new NPC abilities, fresh active and passive skills, distinct weapons and armor, custom map markers, a new game+ mode, and even a photo mode.
Some changes might seem subtle unless you’ve spent much time with the game. For example, you can now display treasure chests on the map or wait while at camp, which are nice quality-of-life touches for returning players.
One bit of content fans might miss is a humorous spellcasting tutorial that was cut before release. Region director Berto Riger mentioned it would have featured a pyromancer accidentally blowing himself up, a nod to a classic Elder Scrolls moment. While the new photo mode and character features are nice additions, it’s a shame that quirky scenes won’t be making a comeback, though there’s still time, Obsidian!
If you’ve been holding off on returning to Avowed or want to see what’s coming, this update and the roadmap offer plenty to look forward to. I’m curious to hear what you think about the spider replacement and the other upcoming features. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
