Atomfall is adding a new DLC called Wicked Isle, arriving June 3 for $20 (£15). It introduces an offshore island called Midsummer Island, expanding the game’s eerie setting with folk horror themes and fresh challenges. If you liked the original’s atmosphere, this might catch your interest.
The DLC places players on Midsummer Island, a location closer to the Windscale Power Plant than much of the base game’s map. This proximity means the island’s inhabitants are even more affected by the mysterious events tied to the plant. You’ll encounter druids, a wicker man, and a ruined abbey, along with a pub named the Jolly Angler.
Enemy types here include bandits dressed as pirates and aquatic monsters reminiscent of The Witcher’s drowners. Combat gets new toys, like a cutlass, the Beekeeper’s Staff, and a blunderbuss shotgun. That last one looks particularly fun for blasting pretend pirates, as shown in the DLC’s trailer.
Personally, I found the druids in the original game a bit generic—nature-loving but deadly, nothing too surprising. Maybe the DLC will add more depth to their story. What I’m really curious about are the new story threads Wicked Isle brings. The base game was strongest when uncovering secrets about the Windscale plant and the underground Interchange facility beneath the area.
Wicked Isle’s narrative weaves into the main game rather than being a separate tale. Several leads to investigate could unlock new endings. I enjoyed how choices in Atomfall influenced outcomes, so having more reasons to replay sounds promising.
