Assassin’s Creed Shadows is ending with a very unfriendly endgame gauntlet

The free June 16 update adds Domains, a final story quest, and five maps filled with shifting modifiers on PS5.

Ubisoft will wrap up Assassin’s Creed Shadows with a free update on June 16 that adds a final story quest and Domains, a five-map endgame mode built to test whatever build you think is your best one.

In that last quest, Naoe and Yasuke will face a mysterious pair of Templars, and Ubisoft said the story will also tie back in small ways to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Domains pushes the game in a stranger direction, with Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois describing it as an Animus-bending activity that turns the RPG systems into a harsher endgame challenge.

Every run through Domains will bring different modifiers, so no two attempts should play the same. Players will clear Daishos on each map to unlock a boss arena, then take on one of three corrupted, Animus-altered fights. The harder the tier, the more negative modifiers will stack up, though Animus Exploits can cancel some of them.

Gear flow matters here as well. Builds from the main game will carry into Domains, anything earned in Domains will stay useful back in the main game, and some weapons and equipment will be exclusive to the mode. Lemay-Comtois singled out “Like a Prayer,” a modifier that drops a damaging circle around the player and chews through breakable objects as you move.

Domains is not only about combat, though. One map, Whiteout, takes inspiration from Canada and can make low-visibility runs harder until the weather clears as more Daishos fall. Lemay-Comtois also suggested Yasuke should not be overlooked, since some modifier combos may make him the better answer.
