Assassin’s Creed Shadows just got a hefty update with patch 1.0.5, and it’s stirring up the game in some neat ways. Ubisoft has rolled out a pre-order quest, a Dead by Daylight crossover event, fresh photomode options, and a mysterious Balatro trinket, with players scratching their heads. Plus, parkour mechanics have been tweaked, and many bugs have been squashed.
Why does this patch matter? It’s one of the more content-packed updates we’ve seen for Shadows, adding new ways to play and customize, while refining the core movement system. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to jump back in, here’s your ticket.
Balatro Trinket Makes Its Shadowy Debut
Ubisoft dropped a surprise when the Balatro Trinket arrived in Shadows. There are two variants, one for Naoe and one for Yasuke, called ‘Winning Hand.’ The trinket’s special effect? It applies afflictions on combo finishers, which could disrupt combat strategies.
Ubisoft hasn’t shared how to get this trinket, leaving the community to piece it together. A bit of mystery never hurt anyone, right?
Pre-Order Quest: Thrown to the Dogs
All players can now access the pre-order bonus quest “Thrown to the Dogs.” It’s an early-game mission where you help a loyal dog avenge his master, unlocking Tsuki-maru as a pet for your Hideout. This quest is available at Tennoji Temple outside Osaka after completing “From Spark to Flame.”
Dead by Daylight Crossover Event
This patch also introduces Shadows’ first event collaboration with Dead by Daylight. Strange disappearances in Harima have Naoe suspicious, and you’ll face a supernatural threat with new mechanics to master.
Once you unlock Yasuke as a playable character, a free quest awaits in your Hideout. Completing it nets a distinct trinket and banner. Want more? The in-game store has a Dead by Daylight-themed pack with outfits, weapons, trinkets, and even a new mount named Maurice to ride into the shadows.
Parkour Gets a Tune-Up
Parkour fans will notice some changes. Ubisoft introduced a new vertical jump that lets Naoe and Yasuke grab ledges, awnings, or overhangs without relying on vertical wall runs. Just hit jump near low overhangs to pull off the move.
Also, sprint no longer cancels when moving up or down during parkour as long as you keep directional input. Side and back ejects now launch your character further and higher with a focus on foot landings. Naoe even has new animations for higher side ejects, helping her stay elevated longer.
Photo Mode Gets a Major Upgrade
Photo Mode fans, Ubisoft has revamped it with options to:
- Change time of day
- Experiment with new poses and facial expressions
- Toggle headgear visibility
- Play music while editing
- Colorize stickers
- Use new customization frames
- Save custom filters
- Reset individual parameters
- Adjust camera speed
- Improved preview mode
- Fullscreen mode (PC only)
Patch Sizes
- PS5: ~3.31 GB
- Xbox Series: ~19 GB
- Mac: ~9 GB
- PC: ~13 GB
- Steam: ~4.3 GB
Bug Fixes and Balancing
Ubisoft tackled a boatload of bugs, including:
- Persistent new item notifications in the inventory
- Wrong save files appearing at max level with all objectives unlocked
- False desync warnings for killing civilians
- Romance breakup issues between characters
- Localization glitches
Balance changes focused on the Mon economy. The Samurai Daisho and Ronin gave way too much Mon, so their rewards have been adjusted. Merchant costs for crafting materials and hideout resources have increased, but the amount you can buy each season has dropped. To balance that, contract rewards now give more Mon, nudging players to look at the world and engage in gameplay rather than buy resources.
Other fixes include NPCs getting stuck, quest progression bugs, stealth and combat adjustments, and graphical issues like mount fitting problems and strange NPC sizes.
Xbox players get specific fixes for Photo Mode gamertag thumbnails, mouse and keyboard input, and the return of Balanced Performance Mode (requires a high-refresh-rate monitor).
