Embark Studios has laid out how Arc Raiders will handle account wipes, introducing an optional, eight-week Expedition Project that gives players control over when to reset progression. Players will unlock the Expedition Project after reaching level 20. The Project runs for eight weeks, and during the final week, those who have completed it will be offered an option to wipe their account. Progress that falls short of a full completion will carry over into the next eight-week cycle, giving players another chance to reach the wipe window.
Opting to wipe returns a character to base gameplay state, removing “levels, skills, items/inventory, workshop, crafting capabilities, etc.,” according to Embark’s explainer post. Account awards, achievements, rankings, and any paid or earned cosmetic items will remain intact. I mean, how else would you really balance things out when some accounts get out of control with loot and become super rich? Like Escape From Tarkov, it definitely needs wipes, and it’s very normal to have such. As for the incentives…
There are incentives for those who choose to reset. Embark promises unique cosmetic rewards for each completed Expedition and permanent account unlocks. Players who reset will also receive account buffs for the following eight-week cycle, though Embark says those will not confer a combat advantage over non-reset players. The studio says initial benefits will focus on cosmetics, bragging rights, quality of life, and smoothing progression for those who have gone through a reset.
Opting out remains an option. Players who prefer to keep their gear and progression can decline the wipe and continue as before, which avoids pressuring less frequent players or those who take longer to progress. Watch the short developer videos for context:
Embark will open the first wipe window in December. The Expedition Project offers both casual and dedicated players a clear path: continue as is or reset every two months for new rewards and a renewed challenge. Arc Raiders has been drawing attention on Steam for its place on wishlists, and its positioning among extraction-style multiplayer titles has generated wider interest beyond a niche player base. The in-game wipe option aims to keep long-term progression meaningful without forcing resets on everyone.
