Albion Online’s Dragonfire Update Opens the Ancient Lands on August 31

The upcoming update adds portal-based party content, the Dragon Sanctuary raid, open-world dragon attacks, and Azaryon, the Fire Dragon.

Albion Online will receive its Dragonfire update on August 31. The update awakens ancient dragons, adds new areas and encounters, and introduces the game’s most demanding PvE content yet. Sandbox Interactive detailed the plans in a Steam announcement featuring Co-Creative Director Michael Schwahn.

The update’s main destination is the Ancient Lands, a forgotten realm reached through portals built by the Ashborn during the Keeper Uprising. Portals will come in different sizes for solo players and groups, with each entrance matching players against parties of a similar size.

The Ancient Lands are made up of floating islands linked by additional portals. Players can activate those routes by defeating enemies. Once opened, a route becomes visible to everyone in the area, allowing groups to find new paths or track the movements of rivals. Deeper areas will contain Ashborn mobs, powerful Drakes, treasures, and new Lore Fragments.

The Dragon Sanctuary brings a new raid

Tradable maps found in the Ancient Lands will lead to the Dragon Sanctuary, a new raid dungeon built entirely around PvE. Only one party can enter at a time, and the dungeon will demand strong equipment, careful coordination, and mastery of its challenging enemies.

At the end waits Azaryon, the Fire Dragon. The boss is being presented as Albion Online’s most ambitious PvE encounter so far. Groups that defeat Azaryon can earn rare rewards, including Drake Eggs.

Dragons will attack the open world

Dragonfire will also bring dragon attacks to Albion’s existing regions. These events can appear on the Royal Continent and in the Outlands, although the warning period will differ. Royal Continent attacks will provide little notice, while Outlands attacks will be announced earlier so guilds have time to gather their forces.

Any nearby player can join a dragon fight, and everyone who contributes can receive rewards. That gives solo players a way to participate without needing to enter the Dragon Sanctuary or join a large group.

Drake Eggs obtained from Azaryon can be raised into a Fire Drake mount by nourishing them with other mounts, including horses. Dragon Bones and Dragon Wings will also be used to craft new armor with special abilities.

The Ancient Lands will contain a new type of fish that can be prepared into food which increases healing. New ingredients will also support a potion that can revive allies. Dragonfire adds a vanity set, an Avatar, and an Avatar Ring as further rewards.

The official Dragonfire update page has more details on the content planned for August 31.
