Activision Has Call of Duty Releases Planned Until 2027, 3,000 Developers Onboard

Activision seems to have its future strategy regarding the Call of Duty franchise. Rob Kostich, the president of Activision, recently revealed in an interview with GamesBeat that the company has plans for the game series that stretch to 2027.

Call of Duty has been a mainstay in gaming for the last 20 years, releasing a new game almost yearly. It has covered various historical and futuristic settings, including World War II, the Cold War, and even outer space. Some versions have done better than others, but Kostich indicated that the company has been learning from each release.

According to Kostich, the games set in the present day or near future have generally performed best, hitting what he calls the “sweet spot.” He mentioned that the Modern Warfare and Black Ops sub-series have particularly resonated with fans. “You start to see the sweet spot over time and what resonates with the community,” he said.

One fascinating insight was about the role of weapons in determining the game’s setting. Kostich stated that the period in which a game is set limits what kind of weapons can be included. This becomes a significant factor when trying to make the game feel realistic, which is an essential aspect for Call of Duty fans.

The company has about 3,000 developers working on various aspects of the Call of Duty franchise, showcasing how big the operation has become. With all hands on deck, it’s clear that Activision is keen on keeping the game series fresh and engaging for years.

Although details about the upcoming games remain under wraps, Kostich hinted that the franchise would offer “new kinds of fun,” striving to balance familiarity and innovation.

Given the track record and the number of people involved, it’s safe to say that the future of Call of Duty looks both busy and promising. With games planned for the next several years, it appears the company is fully invested in keeping this long-running series alive and well.
