A Würzburg rumor has Assassin’s Creed Hexe fans talking

A Reddit roundup and two X replies pointed to Würzburg, Germany, while the chatter also named Anika, Ezio, and a handful of other story details.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe has been back in the conversation after a fresh batch of leak chatter pointed in a very specific direction. A Reddit roundup at r/GamingLeaksAndRumours gathered the latest claims, which are said to come from Ubisoft leaker Rogue.

Those rumors name the lead as Anika rather than Elsa, with Elsa described as a placeholder. The same post also claims Anika is a descendant of Claudia Auditore, that Ezio could appear in some form, and that Hexe may include Wolfgang, blood pacts, ritual sites, and a lot of forests.

The part that has fans talking most is the setting: Würzburg, Germany. One X reply at this post called Würzburg “the best possible outcome” for Hexe. Another reply at this post pointed to the city’s 17th-century witch trials as a strong match for the game’s theme.

That reaction lines up with Ubisoft’s own framing. The publisher has already described Hexe as a darker entry set during a pivotal moment in history, and the project has also seen development turnover, including another senior exit that hit the game earlier this year in another Hexe update.

For now, Würzburg remains a rumor, but it is easy to see why the idea caught on so fast. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.

Official details are thin on Hexe, but it appears to have a horror slant, and Cote said it would provide “a different experience” in terms of game and game structure. It is heavily rumored to be set somewhere in the Holy Roman Empire during the infamous Witch Trials that were prominent in the 17th century. "Hexe" is German for "Witch" and in itself hints towards this setting.

Project Hexe is being led by Clint Hocking, who previously worked on Far Cry 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion. It will launch into the Assassin's Creed: Infinity Hub.
